There are two
established models from Fretsong at this time. Yet more will follow in
a short time. We can build just about anything that comes along, within
reason of course - please feel welcome to have us build your design.
The FS-1
is the current standard from Fretsong. A guitar body that doesn't require
a collection of pretty hardware and plastic binding to have a pleasing
appearance - but looks great with all the fine upgrades of this that are
available today. Designed with the intention to have a clean and simple
look - but there is nothing simple about it. So many factors come into
play when designing a guitar - graduating curves, access to the fretboard,
a pleasing cut away, a balance between two cut aways, symmetry over all
and from point to point, position and alignment of hardware, controls and
pickups, depth, density, contours and round overs, arch, tilt in the pocket,
and the list continues...
The original
of this design has an omega shaped detail at the bottom - somewhat like
what is seen on the side of a violin body - for access to the tuning. I
established this as part of my design over 20 years ago, as I wanted that
part of the body to look less harsh - especially with the way a tail tuning
system draws focus to that part of the instrument. I cannot lay claim to
the omega shape, but I can clearly state that I was the first to incorporate
it into this kind of guitar. This is a detail left to choice, provided
the body is not already built.
Designed
to be the core of a completely advanced instrument, The FS-1 has many standard

The VP really
began on a whim. But this guitar (currently with my client in Spain) really
came to life as it took shape. This style is now a standard model - availible
in the straight delta shape or with the wider forward area for larger pickups
at the neck position. Some will cost a bit more than others depending on
the choice of materials and options.
The arrangement
of the angles will be altered a touch in future models, so that the choice
of single coil or humbucking pickups can be installed at the neck position.
This will increase the over all size a little bit - but she can stand gaining
some mass.
The standard
features for the VP are:
-
Recesses for
knobs and switch nut.
-
Recessed pickup
frame(s) for a flush surface.
-

for bridge and neck pockets.
-
A smooth contour
at the neck pocket area.
-

-

-

Space is limited
for an altered control layout - but Some variation is available
So many guitars,
and only so much time to enjoy the R & D... More will follow as Fretsong
grows.
