| At the start these
instruments were built around many types of necks, usually retrofit for
the older Steinberger end piece - string claw. Then Moses began manufacturing
necks for Steinberger. After acquiring some data, and a few carbon fiber
necks to dial in the process, we began building bodies around the Moses
MB-27, including many variations of this model.
The reasoning here
was simple - nothing on this planet compares to the precision and stability
of a Moses Carbon Fiber neck. And the new blends of material respond like
noting else, with strong responses from all even harmonics, and consistent
response across the whole frequency range. The precision is a very
strong point, allowing a setup that is unlike anything else on Every fret.
One with a lot of
experience can setup a stabilized wood neck to play well, yet this setup
will change and loose those fine adjustments over time. And wood of any
kind simply has a list of limitations from the beginning. While many have
learned how to apply a kind of genius to getting around those limitations
- starting with wood on this component of an instrument means starting
with a deficit. It's a matter of simple physics - one could build a neck
out of press-board, but the results would be pretty obvious to all prior
to this experiment. A guitar neck is finite for the job it performs, and
inconsistent materials will yield results that many guitar players are
well aware of - dead spots, lack of response in certain areas of the fretboard,
strings bottoming out on the next fret up the scale, buzz when setting
the action at a desirable height, and the list goes on...
Many are not wise to the
differences of the current Moses product, and how great it Sounds next
to the old SB stuff without a truss-rod. The old necks were superb
for bass (to a point), but had an extreme lack of edge, sparkle, and harmonic
overtones that any guitar player desires. The new product from Moses Carbon
Graphite is a new animal, on many levels. Just as it was said when this
new material was released "it's all in the mix" - this new and radically
different science was engineered to Sound great, and it does. The stability,
precision, and strength are still present - And, it is rich with harmonic
response and life! Reliable and consistent at all times.
A note regarding both
Steinberger and Moses necks of All ages and makes. Extreme heat will damage
anything made of this kind of composite. So as long as one doesn't leave
their guitar roasting in the trunk of their car for hours, at 150% - no
harm will come to the instrument. All materials have their vulnerabilities,
and just a little common sense will avoid mishap. With 15+ years of extensive
experience with Moses product, we have yet to come across a new or used
Moses neck that was even a micrometer out of spec'! This truly makes a
strong statement about a Passion for precision and excellence!
Fretsong Guitars is proud
of our relationship with Moses Carbon Graphite, and will continue to build
a compliment to this neck with grace and integrity. The finest wood, and
design on all fronts. Another fine addition to this mix, is an MB-27 neck
with a 24.75" scale. This neck will still setup and use the same double
ball end strings if desired, or run with any standard strings, due to the
new Moses end piece - string claw. This offers that buttery "short" scale
with 24 frets, and all those fine harmonic differences - mixed with the
unparalleled performance of the Moses MB-27.
Special thanks to Steve
